Liz Claiborne Dead at 78

Fashion designer Liz Claiborne has passed away at the age of 78 after a long battle with a rare form of cancer that affects the lining of the abdomen. She was diagnosed with the disease in 1997.

Claiborne was born in Belgium and founded her company in 1976. Her company went public in 1981 and, in 1986, it became the first company founded by a woman to be listed in the Fortune 500.
