Bond's 'Moneypenny', Lois Maxwell, Dies

Lois Maxwell, who played the role of Miss Moneypenny in the first 14 Bond films, has died in Australia at the age of 80. Maxwell was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2001 and moved to Australia after undergoing treatment in order to live with her son's family.

Even though she only spoke a total of 200 words and had a total screen time of one hour throughout the series, her character remains one of the most memorable and beloved in cinema history.

Though she never was an official Bond girl, Maxwell's Moneypenny had the pleasure of trading witty flirtations with 007 whenever he stopped by his boss' office. She quickly became a series staple, generating some of the more memorable bits of humor through her double-entendre-laden exchanges with the suave secret agent.

A close friend of Roger Moore throughout the years, she commented in 2005 on the new bond, Daniel Craig, saying: ""Hmm. He's not as handsome as Roger or Sean, is he? He has what you'd call an interesting face ... Perhaps the make-up girls could do something to him - maybe give him a wig."
